What is A Very Special Walk?

A Very Special Walk (AVSW) is the signature fundraising event of Autism Resource Centre (Singapore). Since 2005, there has been different renditions, ranging from walks, runs, concerts, carnivals, movie treats and more.

This year, AVSW is back, with a difference.  To celebrate ARC(S)’ 20th anniversary as a Charity, you get to pick your Challenge: Run 20km, walk 20,000 steps, or Create your own unique “20” Challenge.  You can bake, eat, post, catch, cycle, skate, swim, draw, sing, write, sew, or undertake any Challenge in 20s over a 20-day period from 7 July to 26 July 2020.  And all this is happening virtually to raise funds that will go towards empowering persons on the autism spectrum lead meaningful and independent lives.

Your donations will go a long way in supporting our new and ongoing programmes and services such as:

Early InterventionPathlight SchoolEmployability & Employment CentreARC Learning Academy, Student Enrichment, Social Leisure Club, and our social enterprises, The Art Faculty and Professor Brawn.

General

How does the campaign work?

The campaign consists of (a) 20KM Run, (b) 20,000 Steps Walk and/or (c) “20” Special Challenge, which can be completed anytime and anywhere, between 7 July 2020 – 26 July 2020 (20 days). Complete your challenge during the 20 days’ timeframe and share your journey with us via your preferred social media platforms during the campaign period.

When is the registration period?

Registration opens on 20 June 2020 and continues until 25 July 2020. 

Participants who have registered are encouraged to start raising funds for Autism Resource Centre (Singapore).

When is the Campaign duration?

Campaign ends 26 July 2020.

Can anyone participate?

Yes, we encourage participants of all ages and ability levels. However, participants under 18 years old are required to obtain consent from their parent/guardian before registering for the campaign. Parent/guardian will be required to give his/her consent by filling up the “Declaration” section in the registration form online.

How do I collect donations for AVSW?

After successful registration, you will see your profile created on the AVSW website, copy your profile link and share it with friends, family and colleagues through your social media or messaging platforms and encourage them to support you undertaking your Challenge by donating. 

How would the donation fees that I raise be utilized?

All donations raised will go towards running the programmes and services offered by Autism Resource Centre (Singapore) to empower persons on the autism spectrum to lead independent and meaningful lives. 

If I am unable to complete/undertake my challenge, what will happen to the donation fees that I have raised?

That is all right. All amounts of donation raised will nonetheless be channelled to Autism Resource Centre (Singapore). No refund of donations will be made.

How can I check on the donations that I or my team have raised and the people who have supported me?

You may click on your profile page by following these steps:
1. Click here
2. Select Individual Challengers or Group Challengers
3. Type in your name or your team’s name in the search bar.
4. Click to see your profile page

The total donation that you or your team have raised, and all your supporters will be shown on the profile.

How can I support a Challenger who has signed up for the campaign?

You can search for the Challenger’s name and donate from that profile page by following the steps:
1. Click here
2. Select Individual Challengers or Group Challengers
3. Type in the Challenger’s name in the search bar
4. Click on the profile page
5. Click “Donate to name of Challenger

If there is no Challenger whom I would like to support, how can I still donate to support the campaign?

You may donate to support the campaign here. Your donation will go towards the AVSW Campaign.

Are there any other means of donations if I do not wish to donate online?

Yes, you may also donate via cash, cheque or PayNow.

1. By Cheque – Cheque to be made payable to “AVSW” or “A Very Special Walk” indicating on the back your name, NRIC/FIN/UEN* and email address and/or mobile number. Please mail cheque to: 5 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10, Singapore 569739

2. By PayNow – PayNow using our UEN S99SS0148LVSW, indicating your NRIC/FIN/UEN* and contact number in the Reference field for tax deduction.

*NRIC/FIN/UEN Numbers are collected for auto-inclusion for tax deduction purposes. Donations of $100 and above are eligible for 250% tax deduction. Please provide your NRIC/FIN/UEN for auto-inclusion in your tax assessment.

Will there be any tax deduction for my donations?

Yes, donations of $100 and above are eligible for 250% tax deduction. Please provide your NRIC/FIN/UEN for auto-inclusion in your tax assessment. If you would like to receive a Tax-Deductible Receipt, please also provide an email address.

How do I register for the campaign?

How do I register for as a group?

For group registration, the first registrant will register as a New Group and will receive a Group ID which can be shared among other group members. Subsequent group members can register under Existing Group with the Group ID.

What is the registration fee?

Registration fee per challenge per registrant is SGD $20. For each time you register for a different challenge, you are required to pay SGD $20.

Can I register for the campaign if I am located out of Singapore?

Yes, registration fee for overseas participants is equivalent to SGD $20. Exchange rate applicable for conversion purposes may be applicable in your country of participation.

Is the registration fee refundable if I am unable to undertake my challenge?

All fees collected upon successful registration will be channelled to ARC(S). No refund of fees will be made.

Can I sign up for more than one category?

You may register for one or more categories (a) 20KM Run, and/or (b) 20,000 Steps, and/or (c) “20” Special Challenge.

Can I change my category after signing up?

Please email your request to avsw@autism.org.sg. Deadline for all amendments is 1 July 2020. Kindly ensure that you get an acknowledgement reply from the Organiser.

How do I know if I have successfully registered?

Registration for each category will be confirmed by email upon receipt of the registration fee via PayPal. Thereafter, You will receive a confirmation email along with a $20 e-voucher for The Art Faculty to the email address given at the time of registration.

Do I have to upload my results or complete my challenge to receive my e-voucher?

No. The e-voucher will be mailed to you via your email upon successful registration and it is available for use when you visit The Art Faculty, a social enterprise by Autism Resource Centre (Singapore). Thus, the entitlement applies to all participants, even if they do not complete the challenge or submit their results.

You may redeem this e- voucher at the e-commerce site: www.theartfaculty.sg to purchase exquisite artistic merchandise by our artists with autism.

However, we do encourage all participants to share the journey of their challenge(s) and tag us on social media, A Very Special Walk or #AVSW20Challenge. We may share your post in our Finisher Photo Gallery, which will be shown on the website after the campaign ends.

Why did I not receive my confirmation email after completing the registration?

Please allow up to 48 hours to receive your confirmation email. You may not have received your confirmation email for various reasons such as:

1. It could be in your spam/junk folder
2. Registration was unsuccessful*
3. The email address entered at the time of registration is incorrect*
4. Credit card issues

*Please email avsw@autism.org.sg providing the email address used at the time of registration for the team to check on your registration status.

What happens after I register for the campaign?

After you have successfully registered, You are encouraged to raise funds from your friends and family and to share your undertaking on your social media platforms.

How do I track my distance and time my challenge(s)?

We accept results on the honor system, so you can track your distance and time however you desire, within the time frame between 7 July 2020 – 26 July 2020.

Although not mandatory, the most accurate way to do your tracking is by using a Running GPS watch, but there are also several free smartphone apps available for iPhones and Android devices that you may be interested in.

Where do I upload my results?

Share your journey with us by uploading photo(s) or video(s) of yourself or/and your team members doing the challenge and tag us at #avsw20Challenge on our Facebook or Instagram account or/and on your social media, during or at the end of the campaign period. Remember to share your post in Public Viewing settings!

What if I miss the Campaign period?

No sweat! While the campaign may have officially ended by 26 July, the AVSW website remains open to receive donations. You may still donate to AVSW through Donate, or support a Champion/Challenger through Our Challengers. Thank you!
